I've been thinking about upgrading/changing the forum system for quite a while now..

But there are several concerns I have about this.

For starters.. I'm not sure I can do a successful backup and restore of posts and users if I'd change the used system.
(phpBB(2 vs 3) vs vBulletin)

Also.. Changing/upgrading the system would ONLY be effective IF I can actually counter those SPAMbots with it..
(This needs certain modifications and thus programming skills)

And.. IF I can't keep the current userbase AND posts.. How the heck are we gonna migrate all the stuff THEN?

For that I need the help of you guys..

And please... If you choose something tell me WHY..

I voted phpBB, you mentioned it would be easier to move the stuff then.

But I'm not really an expert... Wink

pHpBB v.33
I like the forum the way it is, and we could probably save all our data.

But if I'd choose the vBulletin. THEN I could maybe also add a shoutbox..

And THEN we don't need the abandonia Chatbox to discuss The Back Den subjects..

Do you guy's NOW see WHY I want to know your perspective on this issue..

Looks like phpBB3 WILL NOT install unless the following values state "YES"

Code:
 PHP version and settings

Required - You must be running at least version 4.3.3 of PHP in order to install phpBB. If safe mode is displayed below your PHP installation is running in that mode. This will impose limitations on remote administration and similar features.

PHP version >= 4.3.3:
    Yes

PHP setting register_globals is disabled:
phpBB will still run if this setting is enabled, but if possible, it is recommended that register_globals is disabled on your PHP install for security reasons.
    No

PHP setting allow_url_fopen is enabled:
Optional - This setting is optional, however certain phpBB functions like off-site avatars will not work properly without it.
    Yes

PHP function getimagesize() is available:
Required - In order for phpBB to function correctly, the getimagesize function needs to be available.
    Yes

PCRE UTF-8 support:
phpBB will not run if your PHP installation is not compiled with UTF-8 support in the PCRE extension.
    Yes

mbstring extension check

Required - mbstring is a PHP extension that provides multibyte string functions. Certain features of mbstring are not compatible with phpBB and must be disabled.

Function overloading:
mbstring.func_overload must be set to either 0 or 4.
    Yes

Transparent character encoding:
mbstring.encoding_translation must be set to 0.
    Yes

HTTP input character conversion:
mbstring.http_input must be set to pass.
    No

HTTP output character conversion:
mbstring.http_output must be set to pass.
    No

And I have NO DARN CLUE how to make sure it will install.. Sad

I NEED HELP!!!

We can just take a chatbox from the web, and add it to the Footer. That's all, I did that to my forum.

Uhm...I can't help you with that... sorry... Shocked

Two things to say in this post.

First.

Tomekk.. Could you PLEASE give me the code of it on how you did that..
A chatbox is ALWAYS better then NO chatbox. Smile

Second.

I'm Also making a PARALLEL installation of the vBulletin.

Guess I'm gonna make it some sort of personal competition then..

The fist one I can get up and running will be the new layout. Laughing

GTX, does this forum have somethings like: HEADERS, FOOTERS?

These are just 2 parts of the whole look(Header-top,footer-down) where you can insert a HTML code for let's say: a logo or a chatbox.

Now, you need to get a chat. All you need is to go on it's website and register. Then customize it bla-bla and get the code.
(HTML code!!!)

Insert it's HTML code to the Footer(It looks better on the bottom) and insert a <center> *Chat code* </center> around it, to "center" it.

Hope it works.

If it does, all you need to do is find a suitable chatbox for the site, and insert it's HTML code to the Footer(It looks better on the bottom) and insert a <center> *Chat code* </center> around it, to "center" it.

It can go faster if YOU give me such code and post it here between (CODE) .. (/CODE) BBCodes..

I meant...

Code:
<embed src="http://www.xatech.com/web_gear/chat/chat.swf" quality="high" width="540" height="405" name="chat" FlashVars="id=45929317" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://xat.com/update_flash.shtml" /><br><small><a target="_BLANK" href="http://xat.com/web_gear/?cb">Get your own Chat Box!</a> <a target="_BLANK" href="http://xat.com/web_gear/chat/go_large.php?id=45929317">Go Large!</a></small><br>

I will go take a crack @ this after reading (and understanding) Chatbox on AB..

Well.. I'm scrapping the Idea of going to a different system.
Now that I installed a nice Anti-BOT mod, I am more pleased with having this current system..

So.. I'm UN-Stickying this thread..
